Got a chance to check out the lug nut on the truck last nite. They left the bad lug nut loose, So I drove home on only 5 anyway. NICE. By the way , I hit it with the impact and spun it off. Did have to replace lug nut.

My daughter took her car to a Sears auto center for a oil change. They drained the oil and put in 4 quarts of oil with new filter. The problem is that it is a small car with a small motor that only takes 3.5 quarts. The check engine light came on, hooked it up to a scanner, said O2 sensor bad. The reason O2 sensor bad was because overfilled crankcase. Called Sears Manager said that he had never heard about that and that over filling the crankcase by a half a quart wouldn't hurt. Would not pay for a new O2 sensor but wanted to keep her business so said the next time my daughter needed her oil changed it would be free. I told my daughter that there are other places that change oil or bring the car home to change oil. Finally, I told her to check the oil level before leaving if the car is serviced.

Don"t know if this is true or not, but I was told if you overfill the oil you can blow seals. That was before the days of all the electronics and CO2 sensors, etc.

That shouldn't happen. The oil pump has a pressure release built into it. If that malfunctions, it will blow the seals. If you put too much oil in a crankcase, it can lead to foaming the oil and less oil going to where it is needed. But I would have to think that it would take a lot more than 1/2 a quart to screw anything up. I have had older engines that used oil - leaking, and put an extra quart in, never had a problem. Depending on the size of the oil pan, and extra 1/2 quart will only raise the level in the pan 1/2 inch at most.

What gripes me about Sears auto is the
way they live and die by their computer
inventory. I spent 2 hours walking a
shopping mall with 2 kids 2&4 yrs old
only to find out they did'nt have 4 tires
like they thought.
The next time I bought tires I asked the
"Sales ASSociate" to go see if they had
the tires, He grumbled that the comp. said
they had them. I told him if he wanted to
sell them he would go check. He came back
and apoligised because they didn't have
them. I have since bought 2 sets of tires
from him, and he allways checks now.

You gettts what you pay for sometime not.

Sears atuo centers suck you in and suck you dry!

Mccool,I agree with you ,not buying into that one. When the 02 went out,it was pure coincindence.

Back in the mid 90"s at tha Cadillac dealership,we had a few Northstar engines with no oil pressure.Debris from the machining process would get stuck in the oil pressure relief valve and the valve would stick open.

The fix was to add an additional 12 qts of oil(to an already 7qt system) to totally immerse the oil pump and force a prime. Then rev the engine repeatedly to 3500 RPM"s.They claimed any higher and oil MIGHT get into the PCV system.

So..........an extra 1/2 qt causing 02 failure,like I said,not buying it.

Was filling in at the Intermediate school's auto shop the other day. Had a faculty car in with several problems. A Cadillac, Northstar if I remember correctly. One was oil levels.
We got on the horn to a Caddy dealer in a larger metropolitan area, They told us that Caddy put the wrong dipstick in a bunch of them. Rather than recall and replace them, Caddy just sent out a memo to dealers that when oil was at the tip (bottom) of the dipstick, level was OK.

No wonder it was spitting oil over when we filled it to the dipstick hash marks!
