New Holland Swather

I"m looking at a New Holland 912 swather for $2500. It seems to run fine and the air conditioner works great. It has a hydro stat transmission and a 14 foot swather. Though it is an old machine, nothing major seems out of place.

My question for anyone that uses a swather, are they better than using a disc cutter ( I have a Kuhn 7 footer).

Are there any problems with the NH 912 or with swathers in general?

Pro's and con's to each. Swather takes 14 ft.and puts it in a windrow but you have to travel much slower. Disc mower can more than make up for half cut by driving faster. Hay is spread out for faster drying with disc but if you have any alf the crimper on swather gains drying time. With swather much faster to rake a bigger windrow for baling because if you rake 2 rows together you are combining 28 ft. by making one round with rake whereas you would need to make 2 rounds with rake to get 28 ft . of hay in one windrow from 7 ft. disk. Disk mower will never plug whereas swather will plug on gofer mound or when making last narrow swath. I have both and am still undecided which I like better.

I dunno,

I swath at 9mph. Think I gotta slow down tho. Keep pulling the heads off of those sickles. :>)
