I'm hoping some budy could help me with this. I was driving home from work last friday and my car stalled out, no biggy fiered rite back up kep driving. got about 5 miles down the road, same thing. this time wont fire. All fuses are good, has 3/4 tank of gas, must be fuel pump, Got it to the shop I bought it from, not fuel pump, replaced it any way. Here is were im stuck. The fuel pump keeps runing like its - 50 out so it fluds the motor. pull out the fuse for the fuel pump and the car will run for a min or two. but the second you put the pump fuse back in the car dies almost instantly. Theve replace every sensor they can think of and still no luck. the pump is still over working.
It has the 3.1 multi port V-6 in it.
Thanks for any help.

Have they checked the fuel pressure? Do they have a scanner to watch the live computer information? Did you drive over something and pinch the fuel return line? Just thinking with my fingers. Hope this helps. Post some more info, i would like to help. Thank you

Install an injector noid light in the injector pigtail closest to the oil fill cap(easiest).Try to start the car and watch the light.Should flash approx 2 times per second. If the light is on steady, either the ground side of the injector connectors is shorted to ground or the ECM(computer)is bad.The injectors receive their ground in pulses from the ECM.The power(B+) side of injectors is hot with key on.

Of course if no noid light is available,a test light will work too.

Start there.

All the fuel lines are good. tried to use a scan tool but the car is to old. go figure. They also replaced the computer. the only other thing that I can think of if if there would be a bad conection to the fuel pump. But that dosent make sense since it still works. The mechanic also said that he replaced the throughtle body on it with no luck.

Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge? Could the fuel pressure regulator be allowing extra high fuel pressure to the injectors?

My son who is familar with such, says to check filter and gas tank vent. or fuel pressure regulator. All or one will cause speratic failure. Hope this helps.

A scan tool can be used on this vehicle.

If you are around anyone who may know what the fuel pressure regulator is (or looks like), take the vacuum line off and see how much fuel is being pumped out.

an electric fuel pump always runs its up to the fuel pressure regulator and the injectors on how much fuel actually goes in the engine.

I almost think you have a new fuel pump that is bad. Where did you buy it? At a national chain parts store that advertises a "lifetime warranty"? A friend of mine had three in a row that were bad.

Take the car to a Quality reapir shop ! you are wasting time and money throwing parts at it and guessing whats wrong . ! Have it diagnoised , should cost hour hour and half labor . Scan tool will work on this car ,,but from what I read ,,whoever is working on it has no clue about scan tools or even basic diagnoisis .
1st: Fuel pressure test "with a good gauge " ! whats pressure, does it hold pressure after key is shut off ? If not check fuel regulator .

2nd : hook up scan tool , look at MAP sensor ? Check for vac leaks , sticking egr ? intake leak
any codes ?

3rd TAP test on ECM ,they are know for bad boards and solder joints . If car coughs or misses while tapping on ecm ,it's bad,,yes,,even if it's right out of the box !

That will get you close on 75% of the older GM injected cars .

"-50" has NOTHING to do with it. The fuel pump IS supposed to run steady as long as the engine is running. You most likely have a broken diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator.

One side of the diaphragm is exposed to full fuel pressure, the other to manifold vacuum. When the diaphragm fails fuel POURS into the intake manifold.

Remove the pushed-on vacuum hose from the nipple and see if it's full of gasoline.
