Valve stem what do you think?

I removed the cap on the rear tire on my tractor. It hasn't been off in years. The tires are filled. Anyway I was surprised to find there was no needle valve. Looking further someone has drilled out the needle valve, filled the tire (water), put air in it and put the cap on. I wonder how I can repair it without removing the tire. Or maybe just put it back the way it is. I never saw such a thing.

Those valve stems can be removed and replaced. They thread into the tube and if you're a good customer of your local tire shop, they should have a few used valve stems they can give you to replace yours.

That should be a two part valve stem. One part is permanent to the tube and the other is a screw in shrader valve holder. If it is two part, just replace the screw in part, a couple of bucks. Either way, rears hold only 12-15lbs of air pressure and the valve stem cap (steel with washer inside) is the primary air seal. So, I dont know how you'll get some air into that tire unless you're really quick.
It's called a valve stem core housing and there is a new and old style. Google valve core housing or tractor tire valve stems...

Betcha that it's not drilled out. Get a thin wire and see if you can feel threads. Betcha that the salt ate up the needle valve.

Place the stem up on top, jack up the wheel and then emove the stem. You will lose only air that way.Should lose no fluid.

Be careful that you don't do what I did the other day - I was trying to repair a corroded valve stem on a 4320 and the stem broke off...

So I used a piece of baling wire to clear the path of the corroded piece as much as possible and then used a valve stem thread chaser to clean up the inside of the valve stem housing...

I had just about got it and was home free, when the entire housing broke (weak from the years of calcium) off from the inner tube itself... :(

Oh well, I probably needed to rinse the inside of the rim anyway, to make sure no calcium is still in there...
