Can anyone tell me where to check oil level and where the drain is on the John Deere 40 w rear end I cant find it anywhere and it seems to be seperate from the transmission. Thanks.

The full level (and the place to add oil) is the pipe plug on the right side of the transmission housing - toward the rear. If you're sitting on the tractor, the inside of your right heel will just about touch it. Add oil until it's at the plug level.

If you mean the final gear reduction, the plug is on the rear of the gear cover, about 3" up from the bottom.
