O/T Done farming - A sad day in this town

It's hard to accept, that this will come for all farmers, my friend had to retire today, for good, he's in ICU and pluggin away at getting better, and I am very confident he will, darned diabetes, he's had it longer then he knew, it's done his liver in, about 90% of it. He don't drink and always went to a doctor, he told me though, some things that he should have been checked for a lot sooner. I rode with him in the mack tandem grain/sileage body truck, to trim off the loads of sawdust/shavings bedding he delivers for a customer earlier this week, helped him with a flat, but I knew he should have stayed on the bench, but you just can't tell a farmers farmer like him to do that, I think the bumps in the road help re-aggravate what they fixed 2-3 weeks ago, veins had burst/internal bleeding etc. but this happened at the hospital after a procedure he had done Thurs. morning. Vitals are good, seems like if he plays by the rules, he'll be good, needs a liver transplant and to keep that diabetes in check, but should work out, but he has no choice but to retire. He's 71 or so. I know that part of it, having to retire and he don't show it, is not easy to accept, but I think as he gets better, he will deal with it. I'm at a loss for words, it just puts a real hurtin on ya to see someone you have known since a young kid having to step away from the one thing he's always done and enjoyed, farming. I made sure to offer to help get all those crops in, cause they have to pay that loan back. I wish there was something I could do to keep this operation going in the future, but it's most likely out of my league. I've really enjoyed the last few years helping out on the hay, this years spring planting, and working with him, this just leaves an empty feeling in ya, I dunno but maybe a few prayers and thoughts will help.

To add insult to injury today, I evicted this pain in the arse neighbor who keeps parking vehicles and cutting grass on our old farmstead, Teddy Roosevelt style you know, "walk tall and carry a big stick", now I have to see the judge about it, well I already did once today LOL and he's a farmer and a darned nice guy about the situation.

What in heck ever happened to this country, aren't you supposed to ask permission, especially when the place is posted and they were verbally directed 1 year ago to stay out, years back you'd get an arse full of rock salt and the property owner was right, now you get an appearance ticket for menacing when you tell em to get the eff out and carry a stick with you! Legal system s_cks on this ! I suppose tomorrow is another day and it's only money, you know for that atty..... and I guess taking the good with the bad will never change, not in this life !

Thanks E.B., and PS, its' working, he's gotten over the hump, yesterday and the day before was a rough one for him, they think he will get out tomorrow, heal up, monitor things and get that liver transplant, he knows he can't work or it will do him in, spent a few hours with him today, I feel a lot better now too !
