Which show to attend?

I've heard that the Tri-State Gas Engine and Antique Tractor Show in Portland, IN is (argueably) the best in the country and I'm considering making the trip in late August.

My question is: Before I commit to drive 900 miles one-way to eastern Indiana, does this show concentrate mostly on restored equipment and come up short on vendors, parts trailers, junk, and rusty iron? The reason I ask is because some shows won't allow swap meet items and even go so far as to not allow a "For Sale" sign on an old tractor. Ideally, I'd like to do it all - see the restored stuff and browse the junk and rusty iron for sale all in the same trip. If the August show is short on stuff for sale, I'll save the trip for the October swap meet.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I went to portland in 2005, everything is there! Trailer loads of parts, tractors of all kinds, hit&miss engines BIG ONES, I had won a Waterloo boy engine in a raffle My brother and I picked it up there only stayed one day just not enough time! If you go you won't be disapointed.

You will find plenty old iron in the 50 plus acre tractor and engine parts sales area. Also an enclosed trading post building for individual sellers of small items to tractors and equipment. No sales allowed in the exhibit areas. Large craft and flea market area. Many yard sales and tool and other vendors outside the gates. Many food vendors by local service groups. Don't miss the 4-H baked potato trailer!!!... Gene

You can spend 2 days alone just in the parts area plus all the non parts venders then the time to see the tractors. If the wife likes garage sales just outside the gates every yard for blocks around has a yard sale and could take 3 days to cover them. They do some plowing also.

Based on your replies, I'll make the trip in August. I'd probably better pull my big trailer up there because I know I'm going to fall off the wagon and buy something big. It sounds exactly what I've been looking for and I can hardly wait. Thanks!
