Steamer question

I have a steam boat which I haven't used in the past few years since it is parked in a barn about 2 hours away. The first few years after I parked it, I added steam oil to the engine and kept it rolled over but I haven't done it for a couple years now. The other day while I was up that way, I rolled the engine over and it was acting like the steam oil was getting gummy. Should I just keep adding fresh steam oil to the slide valve and cyl and working it in or would something like kero cut the gum?
