Uff-Da!

Raked 40 acres yesterday because the rained on hay was still green on the bottom of the windrows.

At 4pm, tried to bale, but by that time, it was way, way to darned dry.

Maybe the dew is down this morning so we can get something done today. Re-growth is already under way. :>)

Hope you get it done this AM, Allan. Alfalfa must be tricky stuff to deal with.

Well, at least you got one side of your hay washed. I'll bet you a dollar that the cows will eat it instead of a snowbank next winter. Chris

No one has cut for nearly three weeks in Western Mass due to the rain. The few guys who cut everything they could before this spell of rain at the only ones in good shape. Strictly grass hay is so tall in most fields that the rain is beating it down. It"s going to be a mess to cut. Supposed to have hot and humid all weekend so I bet every haybine in the area will be doing over time today and tomorrow, granted the fields are dry enough to get in them!

Well Allan.I didn't get any rain on my hay but I know what you mean about the underside being green. I got into a timothy field with a lot of clover and it comes out of the haybine like a pile of wet salad..had to work the heck out of it to get it dry. I run the tail of the rake on the swath and after some experience you get good at flipping the swath, wet side up, then have to come back and flip two swaths into one when its dry..I spent a lot of time on the tractor and rake yesterday but by nightfall it was ready to bale..oh..and I had to hire someone to bale with two balers sitting in the shed. The customer wants the "big" rounds rather tha 4x5's,I didn't want to do small squares for horsey customers so I hired a neighbour to roll big ones for me. Good luck with the haying!

And here I expected to see pictures of the M doing rake duty. Oh well. At least things seem to be going your way again.

At least you have some hay, I was helping a buddy with his hay the last two days, got 8 bales off of thirty acres, last year we got 30 and it was already too dry then and the yield was down. We are getting less than a third of our normal crop with the drought we are stuck in. Another storm last night headed right for us and dried up 50 miles away, oh well there's always next crop and it could start raining and not quit, like a lot of guys are dealing with. Love the pictures.

Still looks like good hay and a decent yield for your area as well Allan.

I still have not mowed my whopping 6 acres of hay.

First time in my life I did not have 30 to 60 acres to mow.

Yep,

Would have been a nice crop of hay if the hail would have just left me alone.

64 acres in this patch.
