What have you accomplished recently?

The weekend before last, I replaced rusted out brackets that held the rear end of the rear leaf springs on a 1995 Ford F-250. It has, if I recall correctly, about 215,000 miles on it. The job was a miserable PITA, but my wife now thinks I'm some kind of hero. I guess sometimes there is compensation for hard work....

So what have you accomplished recently that makes you feel good?

Christopher

A few little things. I have been out of a job since April. Doing lots of jobs I put off because I didn't have time to do them. Yesterday I made one good sprayer pump out of 3 bad ones, had to run to Hills, Ia for bearings and seals. Got it back together last night, will put it on this morning and see if it's dry enough to spray corn. Got tired of switching pumps from good sprayer to the old one with drops on it. I cleaned up and painted the Case 446 and took to a show in Geneseo, Ill last Saturday. Got my old 3 bottom JD plow painted, I hope to take it to Atkinson, Ill. show in Sept and use it behind my JD 70. I spent 6 Saturday's (and more to come) working at our club's new showgrounds in Joslin, Ill. Then I have to squeeze 2 job searchs a week into my busy schedule. This is probably as close to retirement as I will ever get, when I get another job, I'll have to work till I die. Chris

I gave away ~75 lbs of shiitake mushrooms last week with a craigslist ad. High dollar product that I grow for ourselves. Shocked a bunch of people. Had a LOT of rain, the shiitake bloom surpassed anything we'd ever seen.

Then I had the pleasant surprise of folks bringing me ground venison and fresh caught mahi mahi as a thankyou. Brought out the best in everybody. Made some new friends.

Baled just over 800 small bales of hay, not bad for an old geezer with a bad heart.

PS I drive the tractor with my left hand so why does my right shoulder hurt so bad from Arthur's itis.

It is so hot outside here in Mississippi my old tractors and even the wrenches burn your hand. I stayed inside and framed up a drawing of Johnny Cash my son did with charcoal. He got the drawing genes of my mother, skipped me completely! Paul

Spent most of the weekend working on 3 projects:

Fiberglass work on 220 gallon water tank,

New chains and spring on JD 350 sickle mower,

3 point and hydraulic controler installed on log splitter.

Anything to avoid direct sunlight and 100o+ heat index.

Swept & mopped kitchen floor at the farm, watered tomatoes, got the well fixed (watched the repairman mostly) sold last year"s hay, got most of the new grass at the hayfield watered.

Learned to drive the Ford tractor and use the front end loader. Didn"t hit anything or break anything. Woohoo!

Started over with the TV and the digital converter box. Reconnected everything and started punching buttons. Guess I finally hit the right combination, because the TV and box are now communicating, but we only get ABC & NBC. Tried turning the big antenna, but didn"t help. Oh well, better than snow.

Changed the plugs on my 48A, checked the oil, gas and water, then finished watering the new grass at the hayfield. Tried to apply liquid fertilizer on the hayfield, but the grass was too short and I couldn"t tell where I had been, so quit. Will try again next w/e.

Monday - bought the 97 Ford F-350. Will take some pics tonight and post.

How long have your logs been growing?
We are getting an area ready to seed some logs and try to grow a few varients of mushrooms.I would be interested in hearing more about your mushroom cultivation experience.

Spent most of last week prepping my 37 JD B for paint. This weekend was all family stuff ending up with two of the grandkids staying with us this week. Absolutely promised myself I'm gonna finish that paint job next week, got a show this weekend in Wauseon, OH
