O/T Strange Auction

I went to an estate auction Saturday. They sold the house and 20 acres for $111,000.00 with a 10% buyers fee. He made $11,100 for about 20 minutes work.

The rest of the auction was "let's see how fast we can get rid of this stuff." I bought a bucket with four clevises and 14 various sized chain hooks for $8.00. A $2 box had a basin wrench, two hog ring pliers, a large pair of scissors, a grass clipper,a 1 gallon sprayer, a Barlow pocketknife, a door butt marker,a couple of small lights, a couple of sockets,an S-K 1/4 nut driver handle,a hole cutting saw, zip ties, a round file, hasps and latches, and some other small stuff.

I got three saw horses, 2 pieces of 1/2"hardware cloth, about 4' x 8', a birdhouse, a T-post driver, several plastic pails and tubs, and a small table/bench for a dollar. Had a great time.

Sounds like the Father/son team we have here thats makin 'akillin'........they love to Hack up farms and real estate ..when it comes to the wagon hand tools it becomes a freeefor all !......Pile all vise grips together and sell , all chains, sockets ,Pliers ,ratchets Ect in seperate containrs ,all in the bucket one money ,, often you wil see winning bidders who will divide out extras to his buddies to offset his original cost within minutes of the buy ...

Sounds like the family didn't choose very wisely when they picked out their auctioneer.

Usually when they have a buyers premium they also charge the seller too - so he probably picked up $16,000 to $20,000 on the sale of the house.

Yup. Some of the guys who bought whole tables made their money back plus some in a matter of minutes. Most of the boxes and buckets they never even identified the contents. If you did your "homework" and scouted, there were some good buys.

Never fails no matter what happens at an aution or how low or high things sell someone here will find a way to b*tch about it.If things went that cheap you should have bought ALL of it not just a few items.

"He made $11,000.00 for about 20 minutes work"

I know some people work fast, but how was he able to go look at the house and land, talk to the owners, set a sale date, work out the terms, draw up a contract, type out the ads,get the auction set up,close the sale, finish up the paperwork,do hids deposits, and do a settlement with the seller in 20 minutes???
Don't get me wrong I wasn't there, but doing all that needs done to sell the house and land in 20 minutes semms awful fast, and I think that is what he got the $11,000.00 for.
