got off my B at the gate when I got back on would'nt move in any gear. Odd thing is got it home by depressing brake somewhat. this causes it to take hold and move. what's wrong> this thing is a 50 something model.

It sounds like your brake might be hanging up. I believe There inside the axle housing on that model. Try taking a look inside and see if something is stuck.

I would suspect a broken part in one side of the drive unit/reduction gears. For instance, if you had a broken axle, that axle would spin and the tractor would not move, but if you used the brake to stop that axle, the differential would then drive the opposite axle. Start checking for broken parts in the final drives/axles. Probably be on the side that you used the brake on.

Suspect a sheared spline in a rear wheel. It will be on the same side as the brake you used to make it move. A fairly common problem with B's. Put it in gear and have someone look to see if the axle nut is turning without the wheel turning. Only fix is new components. You may have to remove some stock from the inside face of your replacement wheel to get it to pull up tight on the taper of the axle shaft. Wheel must be really tight on the tapered part of the axle or it will work loose and fail over time. Forward-reverse shifting will cause problem quicker than motion in one direction.
