tires and wheels

hi every one i am looking at mounting some tires on my aliscarmers c and i bought a set of used tires they are 12.4 /28 i had on it 11.2 /28 any way my rimes are 9 in and to get the full foot print of the 12.4 tire it calls for a 11in rim how much will it take away from the width or foot print as i want to use it in the tractor pulls and around the farm i am on a budget i dont want to buy new rims but i can split them and add a band i have the steel and every thing i need to widen them

It will pay off to widen the rims. (maybe get a different set and widen them while the originals are still on the tractor. JimN

Keep the rims as is, will not make that much difference. And the tractor pull that I help run the rulls would allow you to run those tires on your orignal rims but if you would cut and widen the rim it would disqualify you as it would be a modify and our ruls are no modifications, strictly as factory. We lost a lot of pullers because they were getting lax on the rulls but are I think making a comeback on numbers.

Common rule is it is ok to go an inch wider or narrower than the rim, otherwise the tire looks funny and does not work as well. Your 12.4 tire is an 11 inch at the bead, so does not match your rim.

thanks for you coments on widening i am still undecided they had those 11.2 on them and looked good i am afraid they will look out of place on the rims if i dont widen them but i dont want to be disqualified if i bought new rims instead widening them would that disqualified me leroy

Forgot second part of question. New rims of wider width would probably be all that is avaible to replace rotted out rims and so as a normal factory replacement would pass, but if you would try to go to a 13" rim that would not pass. And I do not know the exact width of the rims on the 9-2-8-N & NAA Ford but the 10-11.2 was standard on them and about all have had 11-12.4 tires put on when replaced and look more correct than the orignal 10 in tires
