I have been trying to get TD 9 crawler running. It starts and runs on gas. I bled the diesel fuel system starting at the filtes and ending at the injectors. It seems to want to run but only on one cylinder with lots of white smoke. Appears to be getting plenty of fuel whem bleeding th injectors. The fuel pump is filling with diesel pretty quickly.I was wondering if a bad seal in the fuel transfer pump could be the culprit.Dose anybody have any sugestions to point me in the right direction.

You must let the motor run on gas for 6 minutes before transfert on diesel and did you check your air cleaner if he is not plug .

your white smoke sounds like low compression.check the compression release to make sure it is closing

Pay close attention to the linkages between carb manifold and engine block. I had a few TD 14s that these linkages were stuck and wouldn't let valves close.

If it tries on only one cylinder, it probably has stuck third valves or regular valves. With it on the diesel setting, pull the spark plugs and see if you can crank it over. If so, and it cranks through all but one cylinder, I would pull the valve cover to look at all the valves and rockers, pushrods, and starting valves. Getting them unstuck can involve penetrating juice, and tapping with a plastic faced hammer on the keeper (after taking the rocker system off) good luck. JimN

it shouldnt be the main valves if it runs on gas ok.wouldnt hurt to check gas compression.when running on diesel you should be able to remove the spark plugs and have no compression leaking out plug holes.if there is then your compression release valves are not holding or leaking.but still check out your linkage for adjustment.if the pump is filling with diesel its the trasfer pump seals that need replacing.and another thing adjust the main valves to spec, as the valve seats wear it decreases valve lash clearance.

Yes bad seal in transfer pump will fill the injector pump with diesel fuel, then it will over run into the crankcase. Seal is easy fix, about $60. But that won't keep it from running on diesel.

It sounds like your compression valves aren't closing.
with the lever up on diesel mode, remove all the spark plugs and check compression, there should be none as the valves close off the upper part of the chamber. if there is compression then the valves aren't closing, preventing diesel operation. usually just sticking linkage.
