Cut wheat yest and was surprised to find bine weed very thick under the heads. What would be best way to rid of this for good? Will disking it kill it or spray? I need to get in with disc and get busted up before turns to concrete....kinda don't have the time to wait for 24d etc to lay on and kill the stuff...

Keep it from making seed. Then let it grow and spray it this fall as it goes into winter. No way can you kill it by just cultivation. Sooner or later you got to spray. Get a herd of antelope. They love it.

Plus I would pay to come shoot the antelope!

Ps almost forgot your question. I took a weed science class at MU. I remember clearly the discussion we had on Field bindweed. His suggestion was "to hit it with 2-4D everytime it reared it's ugly head"

Are you sure it was bindweed and not buckwheat? To the untrained eye (like me) they look the same. We had trouble in some fields back in the 80's with it.

Railhead, In the panhandle of Texas & Oklahoma Where I farmed, Bindweed was a perpetual pest. It is impossible to keep it from making seed. Seeds can and will lay dormant for 90 yrs. Plowing only makes it grow more.
Short of soil sterilant like Tordon 22K. 2-4-D Amine will do a nice job of control after sweep-plowing summer fallow wheat after harvest., laid down by airplane. As Gene said, spray it every time it rears it ugly head.

well neighbors have fought it but this is the first time I saw it on my place and they all call it bindweed....i don't know. We got a good rain lASt night so I am not going to work the field. I have been advised to let it green back up and hit it with chemicals, wait then work it and possibly reapply chemical before planting in Sep/Oct.

We went to no-till continuous wheat here in central KS 3 years ago and are using Round-Up and 2-4D to keep the stubble clean from weeds and grass. It is working good on the bindweed as well. Still using Finesse in the spring with 10 units of nitrogen to keep the spring weeds out. Some wheat fields we swath and bale all the straw and some we burn very late. Burn one day and plant the next in September. Very satisfied with the yeilds, just cut some 60+ bushel wheat yesterday.

Brash or Weedmaster will do the job amine 4 and dicambia premixed. 1-2 pts per acres from a yellow airplane is the ticket 7-8 bucks for the chemical. In the panhandle of OK/TX we have 2 different types of Binweeds one likes 2-4d and other Dicambia. Add 1 pt crop oil and really heat it up
