OT: Trying to catch those pesky rabbits...

We have six rows of beans in our garden, and the rabbits have eaten them off again and again (we keep replanting, and they keep eating). We've set traps, but only managed to capture one of the young rabbits. The big fat rabbits just sit out of the garden and watch us work in it, replant, and set the traps. Next year we're going to have to use chicken wire, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what to bait our live traps with. Currently they're baited with carrots and cherries, but so far, no luck. Any suggestions or tips?

And I live in town, so shooting them is not an option. :(

Good one Teddy !~~LOL

Rabbits like apples, rabbit pellets,or a salt lick that can be bought at your local feed store.

build a 2 foot plywood wall across where the rabbits run. Leave a space in the wall and set the trap there.

I've been popping them off with a .22 anytime I see them. About a month ago, I found out my state has a rabbit season. Horseschitt! Native Americans didn't have a rabbit season or a queer deer season.

I kept rabbits for many years and can tell you that while Bugs Bunny liked carrots, but every other rabbit likes leafy greens. That's why they mow off your beans. Moth balls will discourage them. Put a lettuce leaf in the trap.

Spray them (beans) with mixture of dish soap and water. Wife says that will keep them from eating them unless there is nothing else for them to eat. She said to mix it a couple tablespoons to a gallon of water. Says that works on lettuce and tomatoes too. She claims it will work for deer also.

Try fresh clover and dandelion leaf for bait, thing is it has to be fresh. My lawn is full of both of those, and I've always wanted to get it back to all grass, but it seems it keeps the critters happy enough to mostly stay out of the gardens. This year I left a tray of plants on the ground, went to work and forgot, they only nailed the spring mix/lettuce greens, right to the nub, thankfully most came back and I can still enjoy some of it.

22CB rounds, a product of CCI/Speer make very
little noise. Maybe not available at your local
hardware store, I get mine at a CABELLA"s, 70
miles from home. Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shops,
should have them also, or a good sport shop or
shooters supply.
