how to remove front drivshaft from 99 chevy 1500

I need to change a u-joint on the front driveshaft. Does anyone know how the front shaft comes out of the front of the transfer case. I looked last night and it has a boot so I would just assume it should just pull out just like the rear shaft. It bolts to the front yoke over the u-joint. I know on the mid 80s chevys, it was bolted on both ends. I did not see any place for it to be bolted onto transfer case. Thanks for the help.

You need to remove the small boot clamp (closest to the transfer case. Then unbolt it off the yoke on the front and it will slide right out. If you are careful and pry the clamp off with a screw driver, you can stretch it back out and reuse it. To tighten the clamp back down it helps to have a clamp pliers, but I have used a dull side cutter instead.

If it has the newer version of the BOOT, the BACK of the boot is simply stretched over the transfer case shaft's "snout". The FRONT of the boot is clamped, but the can be left in place.
