throttle stuck open?

i have a farmall m and i was running it and it just went crazy and stuck wide open, i shut it off messed with carb and governor thinking the linkage came apart, and tried it again but when i started it , it went wide open right and away and i shut the tractor down right away but i am puzzled can anyone help?

Have you had the carb off recently? It could be the throttle finger off the governor rod isn't in its proper slot. It could be that your governor wore out, gave up and stuck too.

Take that plate off the side of the gov. and look at the weights & see if everything is hooked up. Remember the spring opens the throttle & the fly weights close it.

When our Minneapolis Moline G705 did that the governor was at fault and had to be repaired.

Hello blondefarmall,
Did you check and make sure that the "tooth" at the end of the governor tube is engaged with the slot in the throttle shaft? Is the throttle shaft sticking or binding? There is a throttle speed screw, is it set correctly?? Is the governor working?
