can i put a bigger hydrilic pump in a 4840

I own a 4840 in perfect condition and I have put alot of upgrades on it. I was wondering if i could install a Hydrilic pump made for a PFWD tractor pump in a two wheel drive tractor. A pfwd is a 66cc pump and the other is a 44cc pump. I think this will work Has anyone everdone this or heard of it. THX
 
If the pressure remains constant, then the more
volume/output in cubic inch per rev. or cubic
centimeters (cc) per Revolution the more power
is required. Also consider your line size. trying
to force more volume through a hose, or tube
than it was designed for creates a heat buildup
which can cause oil/fluid to breakdown. Also
consider return filter size, forcing more fluid
through a filter than it was designed to flow,
can blow a spin-on element/can, off, or blow it's
guts out. Everything in a well designed hydraulic
system, pump, valves, lines, filtration, is
related, and designed to work togather, changing
one component without consideration of the other
items can result in problems
 
yes u can do this greygoat in all wrong ive done this on many of my old 4840,s best thing we every did to them.
 
I'm with frogleg on this one. On the PFWD tracors they use the same lines, same filters and all the same equipment with the exception of the pump itself. It's a great upgrade.

Can you explain why JD uses 3/8in hoses for 2250 psi & 1/2 in hoses on 2 cyl at much lower pressures.

Plus JD 4840 hyd system is closed center which doesn't constantly pump oil.

Have tried raising stand-by pressure to 2400psi? It will improve speed if system is operating properly . One can do that with no harm to hyd system.
 
yes ive already done that I just like to put upgrades on tractors. Plus this tractor pulls a Byron dump cart with those big cylinders thought this would help with raising also.
