Mahindra tractors

Any opinions on these tractors? The boy is looking at one (28hp) for light loader work, mowing, etc. Please....there is no use telling me he should get a Kubota, Deere, etc. I own 5 Deeres and I already told him what I thought and you know how that goes. So just an opinion, good or bad tractors. Thanks!

cheap price and cheap quality. ya get what ya pay for. i would be concerned about service and parts support. name brands are more expensive, but they generally have excellent support.

Where are the dealers at? I dont know where there are any Mahindra dealers even close, or far from me.

Mahindra's are based on old IH designs. You see Mahindra built tractors for IH in India.

People around here seem to like them.

Oh and Mahindra has been around for a very long time.

Have you owned or used a Mahindra? I have a 2810 gear with loader and backhoe. It has 900 hours on it. I am a retired heavy equipment operator and I think Mahindra builds a very good MACHINE.

I think they have gotten away from the old IH designs. The ones I see locally at a dealers are made in Korea, at least the ones I looked at.
haven't looked too often since I'm not in the market for a compact tractor.

You have a dealer nearby who will be there for the long haul? We had a Mahindra dealer move in. Out of business in about two years. No one said anything bad about them but they're not as nice as the New Holland, Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson brands. Kioti didn't last long either. Now Bobcat has a wheel tractor in the Yuppy size, difference being that they also sell a popular skid steer so they'll be around. Basically, as far as Mahindra, no one bought them around here.

Having never owned one......like 99% of the responders here.....I can"t condemn them without first hand experience.

You mentioned Deere"s....I have a fairly new one (5320) and I can speak freely about it. Being built with parts made all over the globe...China (drawbar assembly), Poland (3 point lift assembly), Spain (electric components), Germany (transmission), Mexico (engine), Italy (4 wd front axle), and who knows where the rest came from, how can a person b!tch about a tractor built in India.......especially with Deere having them built there as well?

I"d say they are about as good as anything currently on the market. And while they may be advancing beyond their early IH roots, I"d bet that much of that influence remains. I recall MF importing their Brazilian made tractors back in the 80"s......I never heard anybody complain about them. A man, on an assembly line, whether he is Anglo-Saxon, Asian, or otherwise....pretty much does the same thing...he bolts together parts at his station. Cast iron is a very basic material, pretty well mastered the world over, 100 years ago. A machine operator anywhere, can be taught what to do.....of course, it depends on what he is taught (to do). I am sure the Indians import parts from all over the same as Deere does. Any nation capable of developing a nuclear arsenal.....can build farm tractors.

If its made in India, I wouldn't buy one, or any foreign made tractor, for that matter. Buy American. America needs the jobs!

That's what you know NOT ONE 28 HP TRACTOR IS MADE IN THE USA AND THE ALL MIGHTY GREEN ONE IS ALSO OVER THE POND GUYS LIKE YOU SHOULD LOOK IN YOUR SHED AND SEE WHAT LITTLE THIRD WORLD COUNTRY MADE YOU TRACTOR

This part of the country (Tenn) they are pretty much regarded as not so good. Engine faliures as well as tran problems in the low hour units.
The real thing is IF the customer really compares
apples to apples i.e. cheap entry level tractors
Deer, Kubota and NH all will probably not be priced any higher and customer has b etter product suport in terms of parts avl and service..M 2cents worth..

i have a 5500 4 wheel drive with a loader it will fill the bucket with dirt i mean full and carry it also dump it over the side of a ton truck with no problems its a heavy machine and works well i pull 4 14 plows with it and a 12 foot disk i have had it sence feb 06 and had no trouble at all starts in winter and it does not have a plug in i do use the glow plugs it carrys 73 lb oil psi and i could have gotting a john deere (japan made) for about the same money and heck mahindra build willys jeep for world war 2 we shiped them the parts and they put them together

Some of their models are the same as the Cub Cadet compacts. Mitsibusi built them I think ? for both companies. I had a Cub Cadet with a loader and Hoe and it was an allright tractor.

Friend of mine has had one for maybe 20 years. Uses it on his small acrage. He just loves it. Never had much trouble with it. Oh and he grew up on a dairy farm using JI Case so he knows what a "real tractor" is.

Deere has a compact tractor assembly factory in Ga. But.....The engines are made in Japan, I dont know where all the different transmissions are made.

Ran one once. It was a death trap. That's why I said they are improved. I base my bad on the fact there is little to no dealer support for the brand, they have an extremely low resale value and their product quality is questionable being their factories aren't ISO certified.

I used to work in a factory that was ISO certified. Believe me, ISO certification means absolutely nothing more than the fact that a sizable fee was paid to the certification board. Nothing else is any better or any worse.

Probably no better or worse than most compacts, but dealer support is lacking- we had a local machine shop (with freeway exposure) selling Mahindras for awhile- but now they're gone, and I don't know where one would go for dealer support. Might be worth taking a chance if they were significantly less $$, but they're not.
