Howdy yall, I have a TD40 international dozer (about a 35 model)and I don't know jack about it. The first thing I need to know is the firing order and are there any way to put a electric starter. I will look foward to hearing from a person of much knowlege on the subject.

First of all I would recommended that you visit the Red Power Magazine construction equipment forum. There are a lot of guys there that know a lot about the old IH diesel crawlers. That said, the firing order is 1-3-4-2. As far as putting an electric starter on it, that would be rather difficult, not to say that it can"t be done, just that it would require a significant amount of engineering and fabricating.

Isn't a TD40 a six-banger??? Maybe I'm mistaken about the TD, but...The W40 and WD40 wheel tractors were six-cylinders.

My advice would be to clean the grease and grime off of the engine. IH in those days was pretty good about casting the firing order into the engine someplace. F-20 tractors, and many others of the same perioud, are that way.

You are wrong, Ron. The TD40 is a 4-cylinder as is the WD40. The GAS versions, W40 and T40 had the 6-cylinder truck engines.
