John Deere Lawn tractor

This is OT but I just got back from taking my JD LT130 lawn tractor in for repair for the umpteenth time since I bought it 3 years ago. $2800+/- and I thought they made the best equipment in the US. Boy is this junk!! Unreliable and obviously made by a company with NO pride. Sorry for the rant but I cannot believe how any fine company could go so bad in such a short time.

thats a lower end of the quality Deere mower you have but still a good machine if used for what it was intended.

What kind of problems are you having? How big is your yard?

I like to reserve the name john Deere lawn TRACTOR for the old ones like 140, 300, 400 etc. Not the new lawn mowers.

Sounds like you bought an "entry level" homeowner product for heavy use, perhaps?

The mower has 250 hours, mows a level 1.5 acres twice a month in the summer. The belt comes off after every month of use and is kept in a garage. The spindles have been replaced and now it will not start. Check some of the google sites on the LT130 to get a better view of its low quality.

I bought a Murray 21 HP brigs 2 cly with a 52" deck in 1992, I have mowed 4 acres with it every year since. It has cost a number of belts, blades, and spindles/bearings. But it just keeps going and going

they do, the problem is a lawn tractor isn't really made by jd, most of it is the standard imported cheapo unit, then they fit a nice front end and paint to it, i have the same problem here i wear out a 42 inch lawn mower in 2 years, but im not using it on a nice manicured suburban lawn like it was intended to mow, i mow the house yards and a small orchard with it, its not rough ground, but its not smooth either, i had a 1973 dynamark 8hp 36'cut which i regret selling in 1999 i used the heck out of that thing but it was slow,it was still running and mowing, i thought i wanted a new 16 hp job so i could mow faster, my big mistake that was 4 mowers ago, im hoping my next go around to get a belly mower under a 1948 jd M that i found or another small tractor, [ cub, A or B from either farmall or allis will all work, old stuff is better stuff

John Deere is just part of the paint job these days. On the plus side, you can get parts for them pretty easily compared to one of the MTD brands.

We've had a LT150 now for about 4 years. It gets some heavy use without too many problems. It's obviously not built to last like my old JD 140 was, but it's consumer grade merchandise. If they built stuff to last, they wouldn't sell as many new mowers.

I think my next mower will be a Husqvarna. They seem to be gaining the reputation of the most well-made of the modern consumer-grade mowers.

You are wrong. All of John Deere's lawn tractors are made in the US by John Deere. None of them are made outside of the US. None of them are made by other companies.

The entry level machines are made by John Deere Consumer Products in Jefferson City, TN.

My dealer says they are built by MTD on MTD specs. The last time I was in their shop they were putting a new deck under one, the mechanic said it was the third one in two years and I saw the steering gears he had just replaced in it. Junk,I think I ll keep the 430 for another 2000hr.

Around here, even the guys with machine sheds full of green mow with Kubota, Toro or Simplicity. A friend of mine with all new or recent JD equipment wanted a new mower (he is very particular about keeping things mowed up) went with me and a neighbor to the Louisville farm show last year with the intent of looking at every zero-turn mower made-and JD had about the most generic looking equipment there.

I seriously doubt anything with the John Deere name is made by MTD. MTD owns Cub Cadet, one of their biggest competitors. Last I knew, JD's consumer products were made in JD's Horicon works in Horicon WI. I wonder what kind of quality JD and Cub Cadet produces for the big box stores. I looked at what they had to offer and to me it looked like they had machines that would not last long if allowed to be run by teenagers. I ended up buying a Country Clipper that is built like a tank. Proudly made in Iowa by Shivvers manufacturing.

I too am not impressed with the new stuff from JD. They must of hired a bunch of X GM employees ? There parts system once was tops and now is not either. They moved the parts branch from next day UPS to one farther away that takes a day or 2 extra to get parts. They have too many mega dealers too as they squeezed out the smaller ones.

I bought a 111 about 4-5 years ago and could not be happier. Just mow my household lawns I had other mowers that i was not satisfied with YARD MAN being one of them. May be the 130 is a problem child.

We have a X475 23 hp with 54" deck with over 600 hrs on it. Mow about an acre and half. Sometimes doing this twice a week in the spring. Have not had one problem and I would buy another one tomorrow if I needed it. The only thing about this unit is it likes the fuel - but it will cut the grass.
