I have mentioned that it sickens me to see what has happened to GM.

However: Look at what the US government did to the car industry.

1. The politicians allowed the ja*s to come here and set up plants and pay NO taxes. The crooked 8astard politicians will sell you out for a dollar, as long as they get votes for it.

2. The Japanese government helps their industry by not allowing US made cars to be sold in their countries!!!!! that is called unfair trade....plain and simple.

3. If the crooks in DC wanted to level the field for US car/truck makers they would say "no imported cars, only cars made here are allowed"

4. Their should be a loss prevention manager at every GM plant to monitor theft, (from employees) also monitor that UAW and salaried employees are at their work stations if they are on the clock.....A lot of dishonesty occurs in this area, and I know for a fact that it happens. Ford and X-sler could use a Loss Prev. manager too.

5. 20-30 years ago the Big 3 should have realized that the retirees would suck down way too much and that the companies would not be able to pay it anymore but-----stupid is as stupid does. The executives had no brains to realize this.......too late now. I understand that an insurance company will pay the pensions now?

Being im a tax payer and now own a portion of GM (stands for government made) I wonder if I will get a company car, or if I will see any profit sharing from my investments? hehe

GM hasn't made a car I'd want to buy for 30 years so why should the Gov't limit my choices by stopping good cars from overseas being sold here?Plus I have no interested in suporting the
greedy Unions and GM's inept management.

I could really give a durn if GM made it or not.Corporate greed and the unions and politions have ruined this country. Period. Hoss

You will pay for it but you will never see it. We all will pay for one car that we will never get to drive.

Amend! The last Chevy truck I had was a 82. Then I went to Dodge Cummins diesel and I'am still there. But in 03 they screw up the cummins diesel engine. I'am still running a 95 and a 02. They are both doing just fine.

Hey Gun Guru boo hoo hoo quit your crying and bellyaching, until people get back to work they should quit making cars altogether there is probably enough cars [new] setting around on lots so every American could just have one.

The auto cmpanies made a lot of bad decisions and let the unions run over them. However, that is no excuse for the government of the flap-eared mooslim to take them over. The only thing left for us to do is to make sure that they don't sell even one vehicle. Make sure the zebra-in-chief's plans fail big time and that he is disgraced and shamed.

I am laid off from a union shop (aircraft industry) and the lack of productivty on purpuse just amazes this old farm raised man. They expect the highest wages for no work, just amazes me.

Greed, corruption, politicians, and the unions all worked together to make a lot of crooks filthy rich, and in turn destroyed the automobile industry.

And I'll bet you that 99% of the crooks involved had a degree in law.

Dont they have to swear to some sort of ethics code?

yeah, right!

All you namby pamby crybabies on here that want to blame the union for GM"s troubles are full of it. Blame the school teachers and insurance salesmen who bought foreign cars and all the yippies and hippies and yuppies and the like who thought it was cool to drive a foreign car. The American people was told what would happen if they chose to support the foreign car companys by buying their products. The statement that GM made junk is an out and out lie. I"ve always drove GM products and they"re great. What goes around comes around. Now the taxpayers are paying for their stupidity. I seem to notice that the biggest cry babies on here drive foreign cars and Kuboto tractors. Go figure. I think I"ll start buying foreign grown meats and vegetables and vote in favor of doing away with all the farm subsidies. rw

at the same time the fed, states, and counties, and cities cannot see they are going to have th esame problem with their employees.
there is not enough money to cover the government employees or the senators and the others.
hello third world.
who is going to be able to afford cars, truck, gas, food whatever when we get there.
do not forget they bailed out alot of other institutions letting the fallen rise again.

but I bet you have an interest in paying china low wages for the goods that use to be made by american workers wether union or not.
glad you support a communist country like all our corporations do as well as all of our elected officials.

Traditional farmer, No thanks to you for helping our country on the balance of payments and also helping pad the pockets of the Japanese. I see that they are also asking their government for money but maybe you can help pull them through.

oss Perot said it best,NAFTA will create a sucking sound in the USA.

As to not letting us sell cars overseas ?

The last few years GM's Buick division was selling more cars in China then in the USA.

I always liked the GM trucks and cars ride and handling, BUT I got tired of all the oil and antifreeze leaks and other problems. I didn't have much luck with them at all ! I have/had 2 Dodges that weren't too bad a 1996 truck and a 1999 minivan. Now our 2006 Dodge minivan is another story ! only 58,000 miles and I just had to replace the waterpump, rear air cond. evap.,and it had a turn signal switch replaced in warranty under 36,000 miles. This is a PRIME example of why Dodge should be allowed to go belly up !

And as to 30 years ago GM,Ford,Dodge were asleep and just thought they could sell any POS to the US market. This let Honda and Toyota come on in with a WAY MORE RELIABLE product. Sister had a 1986 Toyota truck and it NEVER gave any troubles. Same with my other sisters Honda Accord maybe early 90's ? she then bought a 1999 CRV and it has been VERY GOOD too with 140,000 miles and still going for her. I do fear that Honda and especially Toyota may be slipping on quality control falling the way of the "big 3"

I hope Ford hangs in there and gets good quailty and can get out of debt on their own.

So you're going to make ignorant comments about the "J#ps" opening plants here and paying no taxes. Do some research. Would that be similar to GM and Ford and several other manufacturers opening plants in Mexico, India and China? Do you have any clue how many jobs that Toyota, Honda, and BMW create? "Oh, but the profits go to Japan!" Somehow thats much worse than the jobs being provided to American workers who will in return spend that money in the community, Chew on this: In 2005, Toyota employed 48,000 employees plus 1600 retirees and manufactured roughly 1/3 of the cars of GM. GM employed 142,000 active employees and 460,000 retirees!!! GM made -$2300, yes, thats a negetave $2300 per vehicle while Toyota made nearly $1500 per vehicle. Darn those effecient, profit making, American job providing Japenese!

My next remarks will refer to your points #2 and #3:

2. The Japanese government helps their industry by not allowing US made cars to be sold in their countries!!!!! that is called unfair trade....plain and simple.

3. If the crooks in DC wanted to level the field for US car/truck makers they would say "no imported cars, only cars made here are allowed"

Sooo, It's wrong for Japan to dis-allow American made cars to be sold in Japan (which is so far from the truth it's laughable, in 1996 GM sold 50,000 cars in Japan), but it would be OK for the "crooks in DC" to do the same, that is, not allow imported cars.

I'm not anti-american or pro-Japenese. I just feel that the Unions, lack of efficient production techniques and the big three's reluctance to manufacture quality cars for many years have led us down this road. My sources are as follows:
