I just got done wiring up an old Continental engine in my portable air compressor. I wanted to keep it 6 volt so I bought the 6 volt coil and I did by a 6 volt electric fuel pump. It was cheaper than the mechanical one. Well I checked out my generator and it won't charge. So I decided to look on ebay for a 6 volt alternator. But I found an electronic 6 volt voltage regulator to put in a Delco alternator that I have in the shop. So I ordered it and it only cost me $18.00 dollars. That's a lot cheaper than buying a new or rebuilt generator or alternator.
The engine starts and runs just fine on 6 volts. It will be a 6 volt negative ground system rather than a positive ground system like it used to be but that doesn't matter. I'll have to change the wires on the coil and amp meter to match the negative ground now.
