Case 970 Agri King Power shift trouble

I just purchased a Case 970 Agri King and am starting to work on it. This tractor may have sat for a while with out much use, I purchased it from an estate where the owner died and wife did not know anything about it. One of the first things I have found is it is hard to shift into all of the gears. I played with it a little last night and got it to successfully shift into everything but high gear or road speed. Where should I start trouble shooting the powershift issue? could a shifter linkage be bent? filter be plugged? or a valve sticking? It acts like it is droping into high gear but there is nothing.

The 70 series powershifts consist of 4 speed manual transmission and a 3 speed powershift. The way I understand your question is that all the gears work expect the 3rd range. Start with the range shifter linkage and make sure it is adjusted correctly. I consider 4th gear of the manual trans road gear...if you cant shift into 4th but you can in 2nd then it almost has to be an internal problem but the manual part usually does not have problems.
Go to the Case board as there is more knowledgable folks there.

IF 1-4 SHIFT HARD IT COULD BE THE ROLL PINS IN THE INTERLOCK ON THE SHIFTING FORK HOUSING UNDER TOP COVER OF TRANS. IF THE GEARS SHIFTS AND DON'T GRIND AND THE POWER SHIFT SURGES, PULLS GOOD,POWER SHIFT IS GOOD.
