starter on H

I replaced an old ground wire the other day and now I can't get the motor to turn over. The starter gives off a humming sound but it won't turn over the motor. Could it be a poor ground connection?

you may have a bad connection or the starter drives can stick on those if the ring gear is worn. You can loosten the starter and see if the drive is engaged.

I had the same problem on my H a couple of weeks ago. Turned out the battery was kaput. In the process of replacing the battery, I replaced the insulated ground cable with a woven metal strap. The starter now spins the engine noticeably faster than it ever has before.

Dave G probably has the answer. Loosen the starter and it will make a snapping noise. Rebolt and away you go. The answer is a new style clutch type starter drive. Battery cables need to be O gauge, or OO gauge to be reliable for starting. JimN
