Alfalfa yield

We got a chance to check the yield on the Alfalfa seeded last fall. We had one area of the field that was a measured .91 Acres. I could not beleive the yield. Count was one hundred eighteen small square bales weighing sixty pouns each. That figured out to be over seven thousand pound the first cutting. We were careful of the seed we used and seeded eighteen pounds per acre last fall. Hope the rest of the field keeps up.

We used to bale with a New Holland 77 Hayliner and those bales went 60-70 lbs. We thought 100 bales per acre was a good crop. Disappointed with anything less, delighted with anything more. So, I would say you had an excellent stand. In hay that heavy, if we free dropped, that old 77 would punch out 10 bales a minute. Just like their ads said it would.
