12 volt conversion on 8n

After installing a 10SI alternator and ignition switch the alternator is over charging. When the engin is at idle I get 13.5 volts across the battery but when the rpms are increased the voltage will go all the way up to 19 volts. I think maybe the regulator in the alternator is bad. Any help will be appreciated.

You should have your local auto electric shop to check your alternator for over charging. Probably needs a new regulator installed. Hal

Do you have the alternator hooked up with only 1 wire.

If so hook a small jumper wire between post #2 (on the side of the alternator) to the large Battery post (on the back of the alternator) and see if this corrects your problem.

If it does not take the alternator off and take it into your local parts store for a bench test. Most places will do this for free.

I have the #2 post hooked to the battery post on the alternator so I guess my next step is to pull the alternator and have it checked. Thanks for the reply.
