Figured I'd show you a picture of the old girl setting in the yard after I got home. Chris

Thanks,I got the tractor back together this spring after a major overhaul, and wanted to put it on a good load for a bit, ran great! I painted the front end with a rattle can and need to clean it up and finish the paint job. If I only had someone to take a picture of me plowing with it with my Oliver hat on it would be perfect! Chris

Nice looking 70 and plow.

Bet it had no problem pulling the plow.

Tractor looks good after the "clean up" you mentioned below.

Always enjoy photos of other folks tractors and equipment.

We"ve got three 70"s and still looking for at least 1 more.

If you have about 4 minutes, take a ride on [b:654c4848f0]<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbId7_pwkbc">No. 15</a>[/b:654c4848f0] our very early 1953 Model 70.

We call it [b:654c4848f0]No. 15[/b:654c4848f0] because of the very low serial number; 7 a bunch of zeros then 15.

It's a gas burner. Tractor Vet says to used 93 octane when you are pulling them hard, 2.529/gal. OUCH!!! Chris

Yep, that a low one. I thought mine was low, just under 7000, but you have mine beat!! Chris

Looks quit respectable all in all. For some reason fenders seem to get taken off and tossed out behind the chicken coop. Pto covers too.
Ken at Classic Generators has new repo generators to replace that alternator some hack stuck on there.

James--

Have you ever had any any problems with any of your 70's where they just plain stop after working on a hot day? Where the coil gets unbelievably hot? We've had it happen several times with our 1954 70. Went years with a JD coil and then replaced that with a TSC coil and that was money down the drain. Just got another Deere coil from Deere.

Any experiences, suggestions?

Thanks-
Dave2N

I'll take credit for the alternator. After I find a good paying job and get caught up on the bills, I might buy one. For now, it'll have to do. I'm in NW Ill. ,grew up around these old tractors, NEVER saw one with fenders till I started going to tractor shows. Even the old ads in farm magazines didn't show fenders on John Deeres or Farmalls. Maybe your area was different. Chris

No problems with coils on either of the two gas 70"s in the field.

We used all 3 last July to bail hay in 100o weather with no "heat" related problems.

Most of the electrical OEM parts we buy come from JD; more expensive in the short run, but money ahead if there is ever a problem.

I have noticed a lot of questions lately on the 70 diesel tractors on the John Deere forum.

Nice looking unit Chris! My buddy Dan, would love to have the plow. He already has 3 of the tractor.

Thanks--

Ours is a gas. Use it with a 555 3x plow. A club member has a 60 that has displayed the same tendencies.
