So, I got my little 8 acres cut, and tedded, it is alfalfa with orchardgrass. This my second year doing hay, MY question is the crop is thick and heavy, so do I want to ted again tomarrow morning around 9am while the dew is still on so idont lose the leaves. Or NO more tedding and Thursday around 11am rake it bale around 1pm IF I TEDD it again WHEN? MY FEAR IS if I do not ted again come Thursday when I rake it it will not be ready I have people coming to help.THANKS:HELP

You might want to ted it tommorrow around 9 or 10. It wont hurt the hay. depending on how dry the hay is you might want to ted it before you rake it. Thats what we normally do.

Right or wrong this is how I do it. I use a sickle bar mower, let it lay until the top is 3/4 or more dried, then I ted it and let it lay until it's seems just about all the way dried and then rake it, if need be I may roll it over on it's back with the rake to finish off the bottom...I only have grass hay...I don't have a baler so I get it up loose with a Komatsu D41S track loader, it has a clam bucket on it, lol...what can I say.

If you are tied to having to get it up at a certain time because thats when the help comes I would ted as much as you can between now and then. Quality and leaf loss become secondary considerations to timing. What I'd rather see is you ted it tomorrow with the dew on and tell the help to come about 6. That gives you almost one more full sun on it.
