I have another one to share

I like the old hit and miss engines. The sound of them reminds me of my childhood and my dad.
Last summer at a tractor show I ran across the biggest engine I've ever seen. When the fella that was showing it started it.That engine hit on the fire stroke and it bellard so loud you probably heard it two counties over I just about soiled my drawers.Heres a picture I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

That is a nice one. There is one down here that an old friend of my Dad has that ran a cotton gin. He wanted us to haul it around to tractor shows with one of our Mack trucks this thing is huge.I will try to get a picture and post it.

Guess you haven't seen the one at the Florida Flywheelers show . Its 2 stories tall.

They are called hit and miss as they fire a full charge of fuel and air from start up until they reach preset governed speed. Once they are at governed speed they coast with the exhaust valve remaining open until dropping below set speed, then the exhaust valve is allowed to close, another fuel air charge drawn in, and fired until reaching governed speed again.
Hope this helps.

As a kid, they used to use hit & miss engines on the oil wells out around the farm...

At night you could hear those old things popping & chuffing and just when you thought it had finally died for good, it would pop a couple of times again and then start chuffing (coasting) for a couple several more turns... All the while, the old tower & pumping rod clanking & whining...

At the time, I couldn't figure out why they didn't just go ahead and quit... ha...

They've got some big ones like that at the
Badger steam and gas engine grounds at Baraboo,
Wisconsin. International, Fairbanks-Morse, Allis-
Chalmers. It's interesting to watch them run.
Show days are around the last weekend in july
