901 Ford PTO disengages

I just bought a 901 row crop gas tractor . I took it out mowing tall grass. Everytime the pto hit taller grass it disengaged. I would have to turn the pto back on . Is there any adjustment for this or just wore out parts?

If you don't get an answer here pretty quick, post it on the ford board. I had the same thing on a 960 about a year ago. I had to change a little coller on the shaft and while I was at it changed bearings, it was leaking round the shaft. They guys on the ford board can give you step by step instructions on this.

A coller and bearings ran I am thinking a little over $160 at local NH dealer.

Good luck.

Was happening on my 424 at one time. Thought gears messed up. Ended up being that the PTO lever had been bent slowly over time and wasn"t staying in the detent. Took it out. bent it back, now staying engaged.

Thanks to everyone . I have looked a little more and noticed the pto lever welded to the shaft . I don t know if this might be some thing that would cause my problem or not.
