I was wondering if its at all possible to change an A wide front with a B narrow front. I recently bought an A but it has a narrow front. The tag is missing off the tractor. The only reason i think that its an A is that the rear wheels are not set as a far apart as the B. Its the first tractor that i've ever bought.

Cody,

The Bs also came in a mobel BN (N=narrow), which I believe is a little wider than the As, but not much. It sounds like you have a BN. I know others on here can give you numbers to measure yours.
Also the B and BNs only came stock from the factory with narrow fronts and A and Super A only came stock with wide fronts.
I have also heard of where people have swapped them, but not original.

How wide is the left side from the drivers seat looking left what is the measurement from the shift lever to the center of the tire on the left side. Are both final drives the same didsance from the transmission measure and report back as over the years these little tractors have had many changes for different uses. Sometimes they even but wide fronts from an A and Bs and BNs. Even know where thers a B with stock housing on right side and used an A diff housing on the left. Then cut the drawbar so it would fit. Post the measurements and we can straighten it out for you.

The Farmall "A" never came out with a narrow front! It came out as a "Culti-Vision" tractor, which meant that you could watch and look closely at your crop as it went under the tractor.

The "A" & "B" have the same frame and body so I don't know why parts would not interchange.

I looked at the tractor more closely. It does appear that somebody swapped out the front ends. The narrow front doesn"t fit underneath the the sheet metal on the front just right. It appears that the metal has been bent out a bit to fit the front. It does have a belly mower on it. I will say that the narrow front works pretty well with it. I have one more question. Is there a way of getting some idea of the year without the serial number. It has a push buuton start on it. Somebody told me that they arent that common on the older A"s. Thanks

Yes the hoods are different from an A to a B on the bottom. You can check the serial# under the #1 sparkplug there will be a lerrer or two then numbers rite behind the throttle rod. There will also be a cast code on the tranny towards the rear with a number*number*letter post those and we can tell what month, day and year it was built. You didnt say what the tires measured from center to center. and is the drawvar wide or narrow as lots have been changed over the years.

The tires are the same distance from center to center. It has a wide drawbar with several holes on it. Im pretty sure that its an A now. Thanks for all your help.

What is the distance of the tires from center to center and if you have a wide drawbar with 12 or so hole its a B as the A only has 6 or so. The Bs drawbar will measure 55 from outside to outside, A BNs drawbar will measure 47. The As drawbar will measure around 29. Over theyrs many changes have been made on these little tractors.

The measurment from the center left tire to shifter is 12". The center right to shifter is 30". The tires from center to center measure 42". The drawbar has seven holes and is about 25" across the back. Im not sure that I read the right number off the transmission but I got 8105. The serial number by the shifter 6832DA. I hope that this helps you. Thanks so much for your help. Its really appreciated.
