Oil out exhaust

I'm seeing unburnt oil oozing out the joint between the manifold and the muffler on Continental F-162 motor that hasn't run for a year. Also a screech from front part of motor, maybe belt on hyraulic pump to crank. Would a crank bearing give out intermittent screeches?
Is the ozzing oil a ring problem or could it be something else?
Thanks

If your engine hasn't been run hard for a while, that is, not really warmed up. Its not uncommon for an engine to "wet stack". Its a little moisture from combustion, a little fuel, and yes maybe a little oil on older engines. If a good hard run up to operating temp doesn't clear it, it may be time for rings. A crank bearing won't squeal unless its seizing up. Most likely a belt.

When I worked in the parts department of a certain auto dealer, we got a repair order on a sold used car, signed by the sales manager, with the instructions FIX OIL LEAK IN EXHAUST. We endd up putting a rebuilt engine in that one, and the dealer lost his azz on that car.

So if you've got oil coming out the exhaust while/after the engine is running, you're in for a ring job at the very least. Pull and inspect the spark plugs, and you'll probably see the signs of oil fouling...or the beginning of it. On the other hand, if, as you stated, the engine hasn't run for a year, and you're seeing oil on the exhaust, it may be leaking from somewhere.

Not familiar with Continental engines - is it a diesel?

Wet-stacking or slobbering on a diesel is quite common - all of ours will do it if idled too long in cool weather, some will even do it in the summer heat if idled too long.

If it is a gas, you may have oil control rings stuck from sitting for an extended period.

Either way - work the snot out of it for a couple hours. If it clears up, great. If it doesn't clear up, you have other troubles.

Never heard an engine bearing give an intermittent squeal - just a loud squeal followed by a clunk and loss of forward motion (or the PTO-powered implement stopping!).
