Alltel wireless internet?

Anyone have it ???? Gimme the good, bad, and ugly about it. I am fed up with dial up, can't get DSL, cable not an option, bad vibes about wild blue and Hughesnet. Just to make this legal, I use the internet to learn more about old TRACTORS.

We have wireless through a local company, and I'm not sure who they buy their service from. It could be Alltel, as Alltel is big in the area. We get our signal from the top of a grain elevator about 5 miles away.

I couldn't be happier with it. My wife has her computer in the spare bedroom next to my home office, and we have a wireless router to shoot it over there. For both computers, it's $49 per month. I think it's $37 for a single computer.

I have DSL on my computer at work, and I do some of my work from home. Our wireless at home is noticeably faster than the DSL. We've had the wireless for about a year now, and haven't had a single problem with it.

Compared to dial up, if you can get wireless for a price you can live with, I'd say go for it.

Had Wild Blue for a while. Much better than the Wireless versions in my experience. I tried Wild Blue about 4 years ago and it was comparable to DSL, depends on which package you get, upload speeds are much slower than download (not usually a problem). Tried Verizon wireless internet last year and it was slow.

Sister has it, it work fair when compairing to cable works alot faster then dial up.
If I had dial up I would change to Alltel. But I have cable and will not switch.

mostly good things about wireless internet. i had hughesnet; it was bad. slowed down at nite terrible. only bad thing so far has been when the evdo phone lines get busy; mostly on sunday's, the service slows down. i've been in touch with alltel about it and there answer is now that they have merged with version that they will be adding more service. same price as hughesnet and neither are cheap. we tried the alltel cell phone internet and had mixed results with it. this system works better.

I have friends and neighbors that have Alltel internet, it works OK, just depends on if you have the style that you plug into your phone via a USB cable or one with a router and another card. Its about $50 a month for the better set up so you can still use your phone at the same time. I have Wild blue and its really good unless we get a very hard down pour. I would never go back to dial up but I would use alltel if I could save some money though. Don"t be afraid of Wild Blue unless you down load a ton of music.

Until recently we were running evdo (mobile broadband, aka 3g). We had both a Verizon and a Sprint device. Decent ping times, decent speeds BUT.. be careful. If you are buying directly from Alltel,Cricket,Sprint,Verizon etc they all have a cap. Last I checked it was 5GB per month and if you go over it got really really expensive.

The company we went through was millenicom (www.mellinicom.com). They basically resell sprint/verizon (depending on what is in your area). They don't have a hard cap, but they prefer you to stay < 10 GB per month. The other nice thing with millenicom is that its $59.99 with no taxes or extra fees. They charge your CC direcly every month. We also bought a evdo router so we plugged the usb device into it and use wifi (802.11b) to allow the computers in the house use/share the connection.

I know their website is pretty lacking but the service was good.

BTW.. we only left millenicom because a local WISP expanded and we were able to get tripple the speed plus a static, unfiltered IP address for only $20 more.
