i was working hauling log with long 610 and turned off. wouldnt start again. turns over nicely, no smoke from exhaust. no combustion at low or high throttle. fuel tank is 1/2 full. any suggestions. i ordered a service manual, but need to get it going soon.
Before i take a wrench to it:
is there an electric fuel shut off soleniod any where?

should there be any resistance on the manual lever on the fuel pump?

is it possible to clean injectors? or must buy new?

what stepwise action would you take? i have my own ideas but would like yours

which local dealers sell long parts? only mail order?
thanks in advance bh

Diesels are pretty simple. To run they need air and fuel at the right time. Yours sounds like it's not getting fuel to the injectors.

I don't know about an electric fuel cut off but you are apparently not getting fuel. You could have a clogged strainer at the fuel tank outlet, a clogged filter or an air leak in the fuel supply line. I'm assuming you have a a gravity feed system and not a lift pump to supply fuel to the filter(s) and injection pump.
Remove the line going to the filter and see if you have fuel there. If you don't the tank outlet is clogged. You need to clean the tank screen and the tank most likely.
If you do have fuel there, reconnect the line and check for fuel at the downstream side of the filter(s). If there's no fuel there your filters are clogged. This fix is obvious. Make sure you bleed the air out of the lines when you replace the filter(s) and then bleed the injectors to get all the air out of the lines. It should start when you get fuel to the injectors.

If you have fuel downstream of the filters then I'd suspect you have a loose fuel connection somewhere between the tank and the injection pump that's causing the pump to suck air. Make sure there are no cracks in the line or loose and/or damaged fittings.

Don't go worrying about the injectors. Yes they can be cleaned and rebuilt in most cases but they don't all fail at once and the failure modes are more subtle than the engine just stopping.

Almost has to be a fuel supply problem.Take the line loose that comes from the fuel tank to the fuel pump and see if fuel will run out.I'm betting it won't which means the tank or line is stopped up

Check the strainer in the lift pump. If clogged from trash in the tank, it will stop them. If alot of trash is there, change the fuel filters and bleed air. Loosen the line at the lower fuel filter housing from the lift pump and manually pump the lift pump to make sure it is working. You will see fuel squirting out. Also, check to make sure the "pull to stop" control is pushed all the way forward. I had one once to not want to go all the way forward. A stick from bushhogging had gotten up in there and was blocking it. Good luck with it.

heat, humidity, and diesel fuel - life cant get any better than this.

THANKS to JNC, TF and JMT for the guidance.

the banjo fitting from the tank line to the fuel pump was full of grass and veg matter. pump filter was gunked up too. may be innards of the crust old fuel line comming loose. put back together and runs better than before. back in business, woo hoo BH
