What's it worth???

What would the going price be on a 1948 Farmall Cub? Mechanical lift, tractor only, no mower deck or other equipment with.

New rear tires, fronts badly weathered. Been converted to 12V with a small alternator. Sheet metal straight. Paint so-so, no decals.

The lady that's selling it wants $1500, but that sounds a bit steep to me.

Opinions?

used tractors are worth what people will pay for them. You can either offer her what you think its worth and go down the road or wait around and see what she sells it for.

$1500.00 for cub with good back tires? 12volt? Price compared to garden tractor new is not that far off market. 12 volt charging systems can run electro-hydraulic lifts, cub can actually pull a small garden plow and cultivate. Check equipment prices- figure what total cost for what you want to use it for and decide from there- a Cub with mower or cultivator could go $2000.00. It seems a bit high but the local garden centers want $5000.00 for big JD lawnmowers or new Cub Cadets as lawnmowers. RN

One sold in about the same condition as you describe except it had rear wheel weights and cultivators for $1350 at Tri-Greens auction last wednesday at London Ohio. I have a 1959 with hydraulics. Looks and runs like new with weights all around, plow, cultivators, single disc. I have about $2300 in it. You'll have to be the judge. rw

Thanks for the replies! The lady might not be far off, at that.

My wife pointed this out and insisted I look at it. Only, I'm not sure what I'd do with it other than do an all out restoration and keep it for shows and parades. A 60" mower seems about right for a Cub, and we have a new 24hp Poulan hydro with a 54" deck, so I'm not sure what we'd gain in mowing capacity. I have a 6' bush hog for the rough stuff.

I'll have to think about it.
