Cash for Clunkers Bill (OT)

what i've seen is turn one in per each new car, kind of an enhanced trade-in. Write your congressman and tell them they just don't get it. i have an old car that gets just as good as gas mileage as the new ones so why would i trade one in to watch it pay itself off in 20+ years. Until they build one worth my time and money they can kiss this idea goodbye. just how stupid do they think we are?

That program has been tried in Texas. Complete failure. Turn your old car in for a new car that you cannot afford,no thanks.

This idea is a crock. It take more energy to produce a new car.An old car kept in good condition with repairs cost far less to own over the years. My 1996 Ford F150 cost me 80.00 for parts last year.I do my own work. The truck can get 19 mpg, just hauled 1200 pounds of lumber home with it.The truck has 186,000 miles on it.My son bought it used when it had 20000 miles on it.I bought it from him when he bought a new truck. This truck has had no major repairs.Shocks, brakes, ball joints ,gas tank straps.I put a new starter on it.The battery quit after 8 years. This truck cost 16,000 new.

Some of the best gas milage cars were built from around 1986-1992 ? era. and here in the rust belt VERY few are left.

Its just amazing how clueless these guys are. If you're driving a clunker that qualifies, you are either (a) too poor to buy a new car, so the credit toward one is useless, or (2)folks who prefer to invest their money elsewhere, and even though they could afford a new car, will never buy one.

The problem with Congress is, anyone with enough common sense to do some good is also too smart to get involved with political foolishness, so they get an endless stream of losers whose only goal is to feather their own nests.
