ford tractor

i just bought a 1987 ford 1310 tractor with a bucket loader $3000 thought it was a good deal ran good leaked a little oil no big deal then i got to looking a little closer a saw a crack in between engine and trans.when ever you pick the bucket the crack opens wider the crack is right on the top of transmission doesn't seem to leak oil from it, now did i still get a good deal our is it junk, and has anybody heard of this happening before is this a common please help thanks

I would say you have now found out why they were selling the tractor.
I would get a good welder to look at it and see if it can be fixed and reinforced some way. Do so before you use it for anything as the cracking will spread.

Second the motion on either fixing it or abandoning it before putting any stress on it. If the tractor breaks in half, there'll be little left to salvage.

Are you talking about where the tractor splits or a structural break in the housing. It could be as simple as loose or stripped bolts if yawning between the engine and transmission.

Warren,
As stared weld crack. Then I would build some brackets that attached to loader mounting brackets and fasten to rear axle housings for added support.
