update on shot

went real well the vet gave me a strong dose of penn. and I have to give 3 shots 1 every other day so Sunday is the next. My father stood near her neck and I gave the shot. she grunted and tried to turn but with food in front of her she was easily distracted. She was used to him being in the pin so I had him come stand between us so that he could keep a eye on her reaction while I focused on the injection site. This big sow was so peaceful I think I could have done it alone but that will be a last resort. This girl is for my personal use to breed a couple times and then have butchered and keep a couple for rotating more fresh non steroid pork. I have a guy that does my processing and I will inform him of the injection site so that he will cut it out. I am not worried about that as much as I am her health I will gladly give up the portion of flank to get her well. I would prefer not to give up a ham but if the vet said so that is what I would have done. This was the first time I called on him and the meds. were only $7.50

Glad things went well. I hate giving injections to my horses, but that's just part of having them.

May the other injections be as easy.

My neighbors horses get so darn sick that they've been stabbed pretty much everywhere with needles.

Good that she is on the meds to get well. I don't understand why the vet wants the shots in the flank. I have been raising hogs all my life and never give shots of any kind in the flank, always give them behind the ear. Rmember that for penn. there is a withdrawl time before the animal can be slaughtered be sure to check with your vet for that.
