OT: Australian Cattle Dogs

Hey folks,
What are these dogs going for in your areas (especially in Australia)?
Also Australian Sheperds in America.

Just had someone at the house yesterday talking about both. A neighbor of theirs told them that they paid 7000 Euro (12,750 Aus Dollar) plus shipping and fees for a cattle dog from Australia. Got it to Germany and it's hips were shot a year later. Sounded a little far fetched, but you never know.

Also had a story about a breeder paying $10k plus expenses for a female sheperd from America.

I can't see a dog being worth that much..........

A student of mine raises Shelties. They're going for upwards of $500, and they've never met a sheep!

Australian Sheperds (in the US should not be too difficult to find, nor expensive. They are marvelous. JimN

Paid $125 for our red heeler a few years ago. Had to import her from South Dakota.

Love em when they are grown though.

Only Border Collies I've run across here are Bordering on insanity............

Completely different than what you folks that use them are used to.

We have Sheperds, but the cattle dogs are hard to pass up. Just don't fit me as good as the sheperds do.

We paid a thousand bucks for a male a couple years ago. The Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher bought one from the same breeder the following year for 2500 bucks. Now the folks are big headed and have a bunch of grown dogs cause they got stupid with prices.

just got a astralian shepard for the wife for valentines day cost 600 no papers both parents had papers he has 2 blue eyes depends on the color for pricing so the wife told me hes mostly white with a few brown patches

We had one in the 80's that was 100 dollars. but he really cost us thousands... He chewed up everything on the place... Wiring on trucks and tractor, tractor seat, motorcycle seat, the list goes on.. Was a likeable dog, but we had to get rid of it before one of us got too mad....

Don't live on a farm and have no livestock but do live in the country.

Good old 15 yr old dog finally had to be put down. Found last of a litter of papered Aus Shep pups, coloring wasn't up to par for purists and breeder couldn't sell him for $400!!!. We paid %150. Good dog but high energy.

Discovered a limp, vet surgeon did peep hole surgery on both shoulders to pare off bone that was causing limp, said eventually the other shoulder would have to be done so did both instead of just the one..

Won't tell you how much that one cost us but once they are part of the family, money...!!!
He is now 2 yrs old, a retrieving fool, would chase white tail deer 24 hrs a day if we would let him.

He has full growth but hope he will get some smarts between the ears. Still acts like a bull-headed pup sometimes.

We like him, anyway.
