Chrysler, UWA, and still OT

Here is my question.

Since UAW is going to be an "owner" of the company. When the crooks in DC pass card check Can evil nnalert come in start a new union?

Errin,

I don't know anything about the auto industry or the operation of the union. Since not knowing anything has seldom stopped me from offering an opinion in the past, here's this go-round.

I wonder if Chysler is going to end up VIRTUALLY being a not-for-profit organization.

If the union owns a controlling interest in the company, it seems like it could put a very pro-labor board of directors into place. Then, the board could set policy that would enable labor to take virtually all of the profit out of the business. I can't imagine that the executives of the company would dare to irritate the union members enough to cause them to go out on strike. It seems like management would be seriously handicapped in any negotiations.

I guess we'll see.

No, the UAW will finish the job they have started, which is to bankrupt the US auto industry all by themselves. People all over the USA that make $10.00 per hour will be taxed to pay for this.

Hey LAA Got a question for you. Why do you think the UAW and the auto workers would want to bankrupt their employer? Remarks like you make never cease to amaze me. Really shows an abundance of stupidity. rw

Yep, you are right. UAW wants to brake Chrysler so it members won't have a place to work. Heck UAW don't need their dues either. Dumbest thing I ever heard of but must be true cause everyone says so.

Steve,

You sure are right about that. If they don't begin turning some profit sometime in the not too distant future, it's going to be all over for all of them. They can't continue to lose money. Even our government is going to run out of patience with injecting more and more money into a continually losing project.

On another note, I was surprised to hear President external_link tell the American public today that if they were going to buy a new car, it should be an American car. I wonder how the Fiat folks, who had just committed to injecting some billions of dollars into Chrysler, felt about that statement. Sure, they want to protect their investment by having Chrysler succeed, but I would think that they would prefer for Americans to buy their products whether American made or not.

Gonna' be an interesting time isn't it?

You must have a short memory, It has happened before, ie: International Harvester. And the union will cut their own throat doing it again with the Big 3. Its funny, you call someone else stupid just because you don't want to admit the obvious.

What he means is that the UAW is sooooo lazy and ignorant that they Will bankrupt it through, lazy overpaid slobs that get a paycheck for doing next to nothing for years and years.

The UAW stands for U Aint Working.

I have been in many different auto plants in the midwest and the fraud, waste and abuse is disgusting.

Yep. Gonna be real insteresting. We have (had, anyhow) been buying American cars with substantial Chinese, Mexican, Japanese, and least offensive, Canadian content for quite a long time. We still thought of them as American because of the nameplate. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan have substantial US-based manufacturing capacity now. Are those still "foreign" cars and trucks?

It's got so complicated that a buncha yahoos here can't get their wannabe talk-radio sarcasm straightened out. Fox radio spent a few days trying to figure out if it's a good idea to keep throwing taxpayer money at a dead privately-owned Chrysler Corporation so the vulture capital firm that owns them can get a better deal from Fiat.

Why do you think the UAW and the auto workers would want to bankrupt their employer?

=================================================

I didn't read anywhere that they "wanted to bankrupt their employer", where did you read it?

Its just that their demands will result in the company being bankrupt. When the cost of current and past employees makes your hourly labor rate 50% higher than your competition you nolonger compete. Not recognizing that truly shows an abundance of stupidity.

RW,I think you are probably highly qualified to identify an abundance of stupidity. The demands made by the UAW and most other unions are not based in reality and do not take current market conditons into account. Most States across the USA are in dire straits for the same reason as the unionized industries, too many people on the payroll combined with unrealistic wages and benefits paid and promised. The federal goverment would also be broke but they own the printing press. In the real world, wages go up or down based on competition for skills that are in demand, for example, now is a good time to be a bankruptcy attorney or almost any type of accountant. People that work on assembly lines for 30-45 dollars per hour plus abundant benefits cannot expect to sell their product to people who make 1/3 of that wage or less.

If you have ever worked on an assembly line you must know you earn every penny. And yes I have. Even the high wages weren't worth it to me. TDF

If you have ever worked on an assembly line you must know you earn every penny

=================================================

SOME assembly line workers earn every penny - like the meat packers who make about 1/3 what the UAW boys make while working twice as hard in much worse conditions. Funny - you never hear about Tyson or Premium Standard getting billions to bail out their bankrupt company.

If PETA would just lay off the terrorism tactics Chrysler could train a bunch of chimps to assemble the cars and be done with it.

The guys making $10.00 an hour will also foot the bill for the retired workers when they demand their pensions (which pay better than most hourly workers jobs). The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp is already looking for taxpayer funded bailout to pay these people. While everyone else gets SS such as it is, the former UAW workers that bankrupted their companies get to live the good life.

Years ago I saw a union worker by a machine punching out washers. His only job was to make sure the intakehopper was full. If it broke he called the repair team. All he did was sit and read a book and drink coffe. His pay was 21.00 an hour. For doing nothing more than sitting all day.

To be quite frank I believe that the assembly line is worth most of the wage that is earned, (note I said earned)

What I hate is the following.
IE: My wives cousin works at a Ford Plant, he goofs off 1/2 the day by playing video games in a break area while getting paid.

The skilled trades guys are the worst, Punch in then leave for the day and go to the bar, or play pool, or go home and work....Then go back to work and punch out for a full days pay-----Disgusting and I know that this is true.---I dont know a real percentage of guys that do this, put I know that it is true. I have an uncle that did this for years, he is retired now.

There used to be a plant in Detroit called the Detroit forge plant----Gm ran the plant and the machine shop in this plant was very well known for making tractor parts, snowmobile parts and other non-work related items. ---also disgusting.

I have seen with my own eyes a Ford plant that had a machine shop---20,000 sq. feet----30 guys were supposed to be working but most---90% were either reading the paper or standing around bull$hitting.

The amount of work that a UAW technician performs in any given day is about 10% that of any other employee performing same task in a non-union facility. (I am talking skilled trades or semi-skilled functions)

Most of the UAW members try hard, do a good job and are honest but the 20% or so that get a paycheck for doing nothing has ruined the reputation of the UAW. Along with other BS.

THE UAW HAS HELPED TO DESTROY GM, X-SLER, AND FORD------AND THE EXECUTIVES ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.
