For those of you who didn't go back 7 pages and read more about Josh. Gary posted that he is 100% improved. Hale and hearty. No problems.
Guess his heart, liver and lung problems all resolved themselves overnight. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Amen.

While I hope the guy is really OK, I suspect your first assumsion was/is correct.

Also also sounds like an episode on mushrooms or this other stuff, extasy, OD on meth or something, or mental health issues. Around here the meth heads don't need money to buy it. They have a group cook where everybody brings the ingredients. Anhydrous, lithium batteries, and pseudophedrine, ether, starting fluid, camping fuel, coffee filters, propane tanks with anhydrous fittings, coolers and insulated jugs to hold anhydrous, 2 liter bottle with a hose coming out the end, camp stove/burner, etc. One guy with a farm source for the anyhydrous, few guys and gals going around to different places picking up psuedophrine, and some getting batteries. They tie one on during the cook and then have enough left over to last for a while.

Meth head signs are obvious: usually thin or getting thinner, hyper, jittery, talk fast, can't talk in a steady tone through a sentence, can't maintain a thought without jumping to something else, needle marks on arms, meth makes them dry itchy so they are always scratching at and picking at their arms and other places leaving a rash and pick marks, dries out their mouth so they are always drinking and sucking on their mouth which causes their gums and teeth to rot(especially in long time users). When they are on it you may not notice so much but when they take a high dose, it can affect their heart and make him act the way he did and the same for runs out and starts going cold turkey he will act that way. Meth heads get extremely paranoid and a trip to the hosp will reveal will reveal it with a blood test. They also have trouble holding a steady job.

Gotta get the guns out of the house more so to avoid the wife, kids, friends, relatives, cousins, the law, and others from getting shot. Suicides are hard to prevent but you can take steps to avoid a suicidal person from taking others with him.

He also exhibits signs of a mental disorder. If he is bipolar or has a psychosis of some sort, they can fix all that with certain medications. That could certainly be a problem. Every town has a mental health center and is full of people going around everyday on their medications. They usually don't cause problems and most people don't know about them except for the episodes that got them diagnosed and then later when they go off their meds for a while and start acting out.

They have labs where you can send hair samples and other stuff on people to test for drugs. World is full of kids and adults who were on drugs and could fool those around them.

Call the cops on him that night and he would be standing charges for multiple counts of ag assault, possibly going to prison, and they may or may not get him the medical and mental attention he needs. But you don't want to wait till he goes violent again or they finally bust his meth lab and he gets 15 years in prison for that when someone should have taken the steps to avoid it. People can't just stick their head in the sand. The wife may be in the better position to know if he is druggin by who he runs around and how much he is home during the evening. He doesn't have to go out too long with his old buddies to get a fix.

Chances are the wife knows or was just as involved for a while but doesn't want him to get locked up when she needs his support and she probably knew all this when she made the decision to marry him. She probably thought having kids and being married would settle him down. Kinda why the divorce rate is so high is because people don't change. Sooner or later it will be kids with a broken family cause no one did anything. At least try to steer him to AA and NA for help.
