OT/Tires for Planting Sqash,Cukes,etc.

I have a few old tires laying around--doesn't everbody? Has anyone ever used them to plant squash or cucumbers in the garden? My thoughts are, they would work just like making a hill. Fertilizer could be added to each one before filling with dirt.

My mothers side of the family use to cut them for chicken feeders and planter boxes. Old tractor tires make one heck of a planter box. While I haven't done it, I have heard of folks stacking several tires and planting taters in them. When ready, you don't have to dig, just knock over the stack and pick them out.

I have had a rear tractor tire filled with dirt planted to rhubarb for about 6 years. Added another one this spring for strawberries. I cut 1 sidewall out and dig them down about 1/2 way and fill with dirt. Chris

I've heard of the potato thing too.I forgot about it. Cutting them was a little easier before steel belting. Actually, the sprawling crops--squash,pumpkins,etc.--wouldn't even need to be in the garden. The tires could be laid out anywhere. I'm going to give them a try.
