Farmall 450 diesel

My 450 is a gas/diesel. When it is warming up even if I let it idle for 10 minutes or longer it is clear that diesel fuel is also burning not just residual fuel in the exhaust manifold.
Also after its running on diesel, when i gun the engine i can hear something like a exhaust sound coming from the air cleaner. Could it be the valves need adjustment? What is wrong, and how can i fix it?
This is the first Farmall gas/diesel that i"ve owned. Otherwise i"m not familiar with them. Any reply would be appreciated.

Linkage adjustment cannot be adequately described here. Adjustment is important.
There are links to the governor, to the third valve rack, and to the air intake carb system.
Your governor could be injecting a bit of diesel on the gas start cycle. It will not run on diesel with the third valve open at all. Some intake sound is normal. Air cleaner service might help some, but some sound is going to get there.
Starting on gas should take only 3 minutes when in the 20sF. Shorter when warmer.
Do a compression check on the gasoline start position. Pull all plugs, use a fully charged battery, and it should make 80psi or more.
It can also be hand cranked with it in diesel mode (very slowly it will be tough) to see if one cylinder cranks easily compared to the others. This takes time, and a sensitive feel.
