Got the Beans Planted

Thursday the wind finally died down a little and I got the rye cover crop on the field going into corn sprayed with Roundup. Hated to see nice weather go to waste, so I worked the cornstalks and planted my beans. I always heard you could plant beans as early as corn, guess I'll find out. I want to wait till I see the rye dying before I plant to see if I missed any spots when I sprayed it. Chris

Neighbor planted beans this early two years ago, due to an upcoming surge4ry. Worked fine, he had a good crop. Still a bit of a crap shoot this early in Southern Michigan, especially with soil temps as low as ours are this year. IMHO

I"m seeing a lot of field work yet to start around central Michigan. Just a few fields have even been disked. Got my oats in over the weekend - last weekend. With the warm weather, and rain last week, as well as the rain this weekend, hopefully the oats will have a headstart on the weeds. would have liked to gotten them a week earler. Suprised area seem to be getting a slow start this year.

Chris, Any news?
Glade to hear you got to enjoy some "seat time". Did you get those "big" ruts filled in?

Got mine all planted yesterday and did the burndown and preemerge today. Hoping for the forecasted rain to happen to wash that preemerge down in the soil. I'll be disheartened if it doesnt rain. Kinda hard to drag no tilled ground to incorperate the spray. No beans for me this year unless some one out of the blue calls up and says I can rent their feilds.

Good Morning, John. No change in status yet. I'm guessing that will change at the first of the month, but who knows for sure.I was able to field cultivate most of the wet spot and plant, but still 15' or so from ruts with water standing in them. I used the JD70 on the drill and she ran strong, got me itching to get the tires mounted on the 3 bottom plow and find someplace to try her out on a good load. Did you get to any plow days? I'll let you know if /when the status changes. Later, Chris

I only plant around 150 acres of beans and usually I plant them before my corn.It just depends on what fiels dry out first. Last year my beans were in by april 19. they were the best around.

Hi Chris,
I got to plow saturday in the morning. Was a little sticky but turned decent. My semi-fresh engine was running a little warm. It was spitting anti-freeze out the over-flow, but I think it will be ok. I made some video of it and I'm trying to figure out how to post it to the ford forum.
