As for a magnet "having power". All a magnet does is get pushed into alignment. No different than a weather vane gets pushed into alignment with the wind. Or a rock in the river which diverts water flow.
There is no motor, engine or power supply operating a weather vane or the river rock. Same goes for the magnet.
The "magnet has power",a "barn beam is doing work" and perpetual motion people. They let emotion run wild and "over rule" plain simple logic that's right under their noses.
There is no scientific discovery waiting to allow. 1 lb of weight falling 10ft to lift 2lbs of weight 10ft.

I know B&D you need a conductor, a magnetic field and relative motion to make electricity. Mark,s father was a flyer in WW1 and put it in a plane I believe. I think he might have got some of the effect they get today with a Geophone they use for prospecting.

B&D, one sure fire way to get cheap power is to lay out a coil under the power lines coming out of pickering or darlington. Metro Toronto liked the magnets on the fuel lines too.

That would be handy here. Two 500KV and one 230KV transmission lines run parallel to my back property line. It's only 1100 yards to the house.
Probably could add 300 yards of fence. Then have the fence pickup the electricity. And carry the power to within 25 yards of the house.
We had a lineman get killed about three years ago. The cable he touched in the switchyard wasn't even connected to a "supply".
The cable only picked up an induced charge from all the surrounding energized equipment.The line's man took the ground connection off the cable then later touched the cable.

As much as I enjoy arguing with perpetual motion fans, it's starting to get old.
B&D made the comment a few days ago that there's something seriously wrong with our education system if a person can get a high school diploma and still not understand fundamental concepts like force, work and energy.
I have to ask the question: Where did you all get your education? I'm a product of the Colorado public school system, and physics was beaten into me. I can recall at least four classes between elementary school and high school graduation that covered these concepts.
Seriously, everbody: Where did you go to school and did you get any physics in the twelve years you were there?

Whether or not you agree with global warming, there is significant evidence--theoretical, statistical and anecdotal--that supports it. The same cannot be said of the gadgets sold by the efficiency scammers. Anecdotal evidence, yes. Statistical and theoretical, none.
I would flip the comparison around the other way: People will almost always believe what sounds to be in their own self-interest. That's why the Nigerian scammers rake in millions. People want to believe that a $100 device will save them thousands in fuel costs. They also want to believe that we'll always have plenty of cheap fuel and that we won't have to change our habits to stop fouling the earth. That's not science, that's self-delusion.

That was the lineman's fault. Heck I'm not even qualified in industrial electricity but had it hammered into my head over the years to ground and keep grounded, NON-energized equipment. Especially primaries and subs. If I'm helping on something like this I stand back while the licensed guys zero things out.

You mean those things don't work. Guess I should remove them from my truck. Along with the can that recovers gas from the vapor line of the fuel tank. Should I also remove the wind mill generator from the front. In all my years as a mechanic,I have pulled more junk from engines. Another good rip off is oil maintainers on standby engines. I have seen engines destroyed from lack of oil and the maintainer was still full.Anybody need some pills that turn water into gas.

Mark, In 1979 there was theoretical, statistical, and anecdotal evidence that we were about to enter a new ice age. Any study of weather patterns/ tree rings/ sedimentary formations show mother nature flucuates. Thousands of years ago Michigan was under a glacier, what man influenced global warming uncovered it. After one of the coldest/snowiest winters in decades we now are hearing "climate change" as opposed to global warming. Unless BILLIONS of people in China & India change their carbon habits a couple million in California won't have any effect.

Newman is just another shyster using smoke,mirrors, people's wishes for cheap & easy. Along with the clasic claim that "God is on his side" for credibility.
His motor is about as powerful or impressive. as a vidio of a 115lb women moving a semi truck by hand. Easy enough when the truck is floating only on an air cushion with those hover mats.

How is it that he issued an open challange for anyone to come forth and prove him wrong and that no one has done so? Those that tried to prove him wrong acually proved him right. A con man does not write a book telling how and why it works. He has over 30 important people with written statements endorsing his work. In one of his vidios his machine is shown pumping water. I heard he has put up a $10,000 prize for anyone to do what his machine does with a conventual motor on less imput. Maybe you should be the first and win the prize! Until you have read, studied and MASTERED his teaching, you should not be voicing opions about permanent magnets. His machine is converting mass into energy (E=MC squared) Google the site of Rodger Hastings and read his declarations. Open your mind and do some research, you have a lot to learn. I know Joe looks, acts and talks like a kook, but I think it is because of the way he has been mistreated over all these years.

I can tell you have never seen his book and will continue to hide behind the old out dated books of the past. That is your choice, Your mind is old , made up and set in it's ways. I can't change that, only you can. Do your books mechanically explain how two magnets attract or repell each other? NO! But Joe's does. Does your books explain where the magnetic field in a conductor comes from? Joe's does. Can you mechanically explain what is happening when a conductor passes through a magnetic field and when it passes in the opposite direction everthing is reversed? How does the current know which way to go? All are answered in Joe's book.

Gary, I don't dispute anything you say. But it doesn't detract at all from my point, which is that people tend to believe what they want to believe. Critical thinking is an acquired skill, and it's one that our schools seem to be doing a very poor job of teaching. If you need evidence, just look at the posts by teddy in this thread.

A quick perusal of Joe Newman's web site reveals him to be an entertaining crackpot. Checking out what other people have to say about indicates that he's probably also a crook.
Here's a random selection from Deacon Joe's web site:

So Joe Newman has just redefined what power is. Joe's crackpot theory won't pass the most basic test known to every freshman engineering or science major: Dimensional consistency. Power is measured in units of foot-lbs per second, newton-meters per second, etc. It's always force times distance divided by time. It's the rate at which work is done. Now, I have to gloss over Joe's math, which is nonsensical, but in the end he is saying power equals power divided by time.
Let's write that out:
power = power / time
-or-
force x distance / time = (force x distance / time) / time
I'm sure if you passed high school algebra you can see there's a problem with that equation. It only has a solution when time equals "1". And even then it fails dimensional consistency.
Now you CAN make the case that Joe is a genius who has re-invented math and physics. But the problem is that he casually drops the names of great scientists and engineers like Maxwell, Faraday, Tesla and Einstein. You can't do that! If you invent your own set of scientific theories that contradict every existing principal, you don't get to go back and quote the same theories that you've already rejected. It would be as if a Wiccan started quoting the Nicene Creed: you can't pick and choose between your belief systems.
Oh, by the way: How much money have you invested in Joe Newman's crackpot theories? Not too much, I hope.

No one has proven him wrong,because he will not let them.He will not give the machine over to anyone to test.Also if you look at his history every thing he predicted as failed to happen.I have been in the power generation field for 40 years.Alot of what he says is just plain false.
