Stuck Valve

Im working on a honda push mower for a friend (model # hrr2162sda). The intake valve was stuck open, so I took the engine all apart and lapped to valves. Put everything back together and it ran like a dream. I let is sit overnight, and they next day I went to start it and it wouldnt go. So I pulled the valve cover and the intake valve was stuck open again. I wiggled it until it felt like it was good an free, put the valve cover back on and it fired right up.

my question is what can I do to prevent to valve from sticking when I let the engine sit for a long time (24+hrs.)??

Thanks,
Tom

Clean the valve stem AND the guide thoroughly with an appropriate brush and spray carburetor cleaner.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil in ALL my little aircooled engines. It is said to reduce valve sticking, and, so far, so good, for me.

Down home remedy used to be a quart of ATF in a car that had a valve that was sticky. The modern version might be Sea Foam or something equally pricey but 1 part ATF to 3 parts motor oil ought to work.

Old practice was to knurl and lap valve guide, then lap valve. Oil valve stem or use LubriPlate on guide and valve stem. the small grooves acted as oil retainers, reduced friction. Have you checked your valve springs? - preload shims sometimes get lost. RN

I had a couple of valves stick on my MF35. I wiggled them loose with a pair of vise grips. Then I began adding a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas at each fill up. Also I substitute one quart of oil with MMO in the crank. No problem in about five years. Your mileage may vary. TDF
