I finially got to the C today and as soon as i took the valve cover off i saw the push rod had come off the rocker again. Its just like it was when i got this tractor.

When i put it back on, i couldnt "feel" for the spot the push rod goes into very well. With the other two tractors, its very apperent where the rod is supposed to "sit" inside the engine.

The rod isnt bent or anything, and the rockers feel solid, not like theyre about to fall apart like one set here.

Im going to guess cam or lifters. Either way, i have good ones out of the first C.

Any thoughts here??

You might want to look in there with a flashlight or what not, could be that the hole as some crud or something in there and is not letting the push rod seat. Try this simple task first, before tearing into it.

I'm still inclined to believe you have a valve that is sticking and will let that push rod drop out, especially if it is as you say the same one that dropped out before. When that C was running right it sounded good, that wouldn't be the case with a bad cam/lifter.

If it is a valve sticking you may be able to free it without much trouble. Get some Berrymans B12 Chemtool solvent, last I got was at WalMart. Start the engine with the valve cover off let it run at an idle. Flood the offending valve with B12 a little at a time. You can actually get enough past the valve to kill that cylinder for a bit. It should flush everything clean and free it up. Worked on my B after Dad used nothing but non-detergent oil in it for 45 years. Just a thought. If you can't get B12 there's probably other stuff that will work. Might be a good idea to change oil after you are done. The whole can of B12 will help clean the crankcase too.
