When I turn my timing advance lever to the left where it should ground the mag out it doesn't ground. What might cause this and what part of the mag actually grounds to what? Thanks,Jeff

Im not sure inside the mag where it accually grounds, but I have that problem with mine, its just a wore out linkage. I can turn it all the way to the left with the lever, and then walk around to the mag and move the cover just a tad more and she dies. I just havent fixed my linkage yet.

Disconnect the advance rod from the mag, start the engine and try shutting off the engine by moving the cap on the end of the mag all the way up. That should kill the mag. If not, the rods and linkages are probably worn out. My F-20 shuts off when the lever on the mag is all the way up, it grounds the connector that connects to the points.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. You're probably right.I have some things apart on it right now but I'll try that the next time I start it. Thanks,Jeff

There is a small tab inside the cap that contacts to ground it & kill the spark. You may need to bend it so it makes contact again.

Thanks i'll try that because I checked the movement on the cap with the lever and linkages and the lever seems to provide full movement in both directions. Thanks,Jeff
